Beck's Band
Beck's
Band began in the 1830's and played in the Philadelphia
area until about the turn of the century. My great-great grandfather,
Henry Beck, was one of the original members. Also in the band
was Septimus
Winner, who wrote "Listen to the Mocking Bird." They played
at campaign rallies for Zachary Taylor and at the Centennial
Exposition of 1876. During the Civil War, some of the Beck brothers
played in the 28th Pennsylvania Regimental Band.
