| The
Susan M. Blume Award
is given to the senior girl who most nearly typifies the character traits
of concern for the welfare of others, emotional maturity, and honesty.
Susan Blume graduated with the Class of '64. I remember her as a small,
quiet girl, who was nice to everyone she knew. She died shortly after
graduating. |

| The
Alice Borgen Memorial Award
for English is given in memory of my senior English teacher. Mrs.
Borgen was a true individual who challenged her students to work hard.
I still have some of the papers I did in her class! |

| The
J.M.T. Childrey Memorial Medal
is the highest honor awarded at Haddonfield Memorial High School. It
is awarded on the basis of scholarship, class leadership, cooperation
with the faculty, and participation in school activities. It was already
a long-standing honor when my mom graduated in 1940. |
|
| The
Mary E. Diamond Math Award
is given in honor of my freshman algebra teacher. Miss Diamond
had the dubious task of introducing the "new math" to us at the end
of the year. |
 |
| The
Julie R. Macier Character Award,
established in 1995 and co-sponsored by the BOE, PTA, and Values &
Ethics Committee is awarded to an HMHS senior who exhibits character
traits of courage, faith, honesty, integrity, responsibility, humor,
compassion, perseverance, friendship, trustworthiness, and respect. |
 |
| The
Betty C. Magill Award
is dedicated to a kindergarten teacher who taught in the Haddonfield
Schools for almost 30 years and was regarded as a special member of
the community by those who knew her. |
|
| The
J. Franklin Miller Memorial Scholarship Award
for outstanding four year record in mathematics was established in memory
of Mr. Miller, who taught math at HMHS from the late 1930's until his
sudden death in 1969. He was also my uncle, my Godfather, and the best
(and toughest!) math teacher I ever had. |

The
Carrie Snaidman Oberholtzer Award
is dedicated to a member of the Class of 1940 who died tragically, leaving
small children behind. Carrie Glasgow Snaidman, winner of the 1940 Childrey
Memorial Medal,
"was
a diminutive miss with a big smile. She was an excellent student
and an outstanding athlete, making the all-Star South Jersey Hockey
Team. Lovely, friendly, full of fun, and notorious for her puns
-- Carrie was naturally one of the most popular girls. Her intelligence
and reliability should lead to success in whatever she undertakes."
(Shield, 1940)

made the school community a happier, brighter and more loving place. |
|
| The
Ingeborg Turner Memorial Scholarship Award
for excellence in German is given in memory of the legendary Frau Turner.
Frau Turner began her career at HMHS in 1964, and I was fortunate enough
to be in one of her first classes. During our year with her, we lived
Schiller's Wilhelm Tell! |
